A contract agreement has been reached between the Société de transport de Montréal and the Syndicat du transport de Montréal, the union representing the transit authority’s 2,400 maintenance workers.

In a statement Thursday, the union said the agreement was reached at 5 a.m. and in the wake of a mediator’s recommendation and intensive negotiations during the week.

The STM had tabled a full and final offer to the union Feb. 18 after 170 negotiating sessions. A day later, the Quebec Labour board ordered the union to end a work slowdown it deemed to be illegal. The STM had argued the slowdowns had reduced the number of buses available for commuters.

The union said on Thursday it would schedule a meeting to explain the offer and recommend the membership accept it.

The STM has already settled contract talks with its bus and métro drivers, the new agreement remaining in effect until 2025.
