Passengers evacuated the Melbourne Airport Qantas terminal after a smoke alarm went off in a food court kitchen.
A Qantas spokesman said passengers mistook the alarm in Terminal 1 for an order to evacuate.
He encouraged passengers to move back through security and board their flights as normal.
He said flights would wait for people to move back through the terminal and any delays would be «very minimal».
It comes a day after international passengers suffered through long delays when Border Force’s SmartGate passport scanning system failed.
