Swanbourne dognapper refuses to say why he stole 10-month-old spoodle, Teddy

A western suburbs dognapper — charged after the pet’s distraught owners offered a $20,000 reward — has made a backhanded apology after confessing to stealing the puppy.

Mark James Dunks, 39, on Tuesday admitted in Perth Magistrate’s Court to stealing 10-week-old spoodle, Teddy, from his owner’s Swanbourne backyard in March after he was captured on CCTV carrying the dog out of the property.

A campaign to get Teddy back to his owners resulted in a tip-off one week after he went missing, leading to Dunks’ and a house in Armadale, where the puppy was found.

Despite Dunks lawyer telling a Magistrate his client was apologetic, Dunks was unable to say sorry to the owners, or offer any insight into why he took the dog to reporters outside court.
