Stolen car driven by teen boy ran red light before fatal crash: Police

A sedan stolen from a shopping centre by joyriding teenagers had raced through a red light before the fatal accident north of Brisbane on Wednesday, police said.

A 14-year-old Maleny boy who was a front passenger in the Mazda, allegedly stolen from a Kallangur shopping centre hours earlier, died at the scene.

The car, with five teens and a 10-year-old inside, was driven at speed along Anzac Avenue in Rothwell before running a red light at the intersection with Wattle Road just before 3pm, crashing into a Dodge sedan and a traffic light pole.

The alleged driver of the Mazda, a 14-year-old Waterford West boy, was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
