A police spokeswoman said on Thursday morning the death was not suspicious.
The remains were removed from the scene just after 3pm.
Hannah Catchpole, the general manager of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, said no-one at the club knew anything until they saw the police gathering outside.
«When any incident happens on or around the beach, the yacht club is always very concerned to know what it is,» she said.
«We’re just waiting to see if we can be of any assistance.»
Local resident Charles, 50, said it wasn’t a dangerous area at all.
«It’s a bit unusual not knowing what happened. Whether it’s someone who’s washed up or something bad’s happened down on the beach. A bit concerning because a lot of people walk along here, especially at night,» he said.
«I think people are going to be worried until they know the outcome.»
